I just read that the Redskins have signed undrafted QB Chase Daniels as a free agent. And that he will be "battling Colt Brennan for the 3rd string spot" ANOTHER QB.....C'MON!!
While I have nothing but respect for what Chase accomplished during his time at Mizz, I think that is totally unfair to Colt. He EARNED his spot last year after beating Derek Devine for the 3rd spot. And now he has to fight for it again?!?! C'MON!!
I've read articles about the Redskins, praticularly anything dealing with Colt. And from what I read in those articles, it seems Colt has a huge following in DC. He's popular with his teammates, the outside community loves him, and he still volunteers his time to speak to kids and support groups. IF by some freakish occurence, Colt is released, the Redskins will lose a whole lot of fans.....praticularly the fans in Hawaii.....
Colt has proven that he can hang with the big guys in the NFL, granted it was only preseason, but if memory serves he was the top rated Rookie QB coming out of preseason. I have no doubt in my mind, that if Colt got a shot in the regular season last year, he would've shined like Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco did. The Redskins' record would've been a hell of a lot better. IMHO, Colt has the qualties of a great QB, and the intangibles as well....
Nothing against Campbell, but from what I've seen of him, he's too conservative in his reads and decsions. It's good to be conservative, but you also have to take a shot now and again. I've spoken to a few guys at work who are life long Skins fans, and they agree , Campbell needs to be a lil more agressive. I've seen games where there'd be a reciever 15+ yards downfield, wide open, but he'd make the short throw instead....
I SINCERELY hope that the Redskins realize what a steal they got in Colt. John Madden has nothing but praise for Colt. We ALL know what June Jones thinks of Colt. You talk to all of the college coaches that Hawaii went up against while Colt was there, and they have nothing but praise for him. C'mon, ALLthese guys can't be wrong....
GIVE COLT A SHOT!!!

I wouldn't get too worried about Chase. I've heard Zorn remark about Colt's progress and he has said what people see this summer, they will love. Snyder is the guy always looking to make a big splash. Once they give Colt a shot they'll see they have their QB for the next decade.
I predict he'll get that shot at sometime in 2009...

Signing Chase Daniel is a frickin joke. It's a slap in the face to Colt. Snyder is a jackass. They wont know what they have till it's gone.

Chase and Colt will give the Redskins depth in the WCO. I see Chase as a good thing if he can handle the transition and all the rookie hazing on and off the field. Them being friends is also a good thing. HAIL!

Chase is just camp fodder for the 4th quarter, I really don't see him as a threat to Colt. If anything, Colt is the threat to everyone else

Let's not forget who we are talking about here. I believe Colt is a VERY driven individual and knowing him, the more guys in camp just means more guys he can out-perform on the field. Remeber, Colt loves the uphill battle. Besides, football is all about competition and ANYTHING worth having is worth earning. I am almost glad they signed the guys for camp. It will only make our guy better. Good Luck CB5!!!

I wouldnt worry about anything. I cant see Chase taking Colts spot. Theres nothing wrong with a little competition. Dont want them to become complacent. Plus Collins is getting old and Campbell may not be here next year if he doest become consistently productive.

I read a post that people saw that Receivers were 15 yards downfield, and Campbell hesitated to throw to them. Please be aware that what looks open on television, might not necessarily be the same on the field at the time of the play. You ever wonder if the receiver ran the wrong route, and he had thrown the ball, there might have been a LB, Safety in that area. You would have been mad if the results ened up being a turnover.
Brennan plays one or two times in the preseason against 2nd and 3rd stringers and people thinks he's the savior. I hope that while you watched the games last season that the offensive line couldn't block, or hold the line long enough for him to set up. Also what about the receivers not pulling their share of the load.
Boy!..I'm sure Colt would have stepped right up and did amazing things against the Giants, Eagles, Ravens, an Steelers. WOW!
Campbell will start, and Colt will have to fight Daniels who I'm more impressed with. Let's see who has the better MECHANICS during preseason, and then you decide.

True, Colt played in pre-season against 2nd and 3rd stringers. But he was also playing with 2nd and 3rd stringers. And he led the Redskins to come-from-behind victories in 3 of those games.
Mechanics are important for a QB, but even more important is leadership, accuracy and the ability to win. Two great NFL QB's who had throwing motions not unlike Colt were Kenny Stabler and Rich Gannon. They both won a lot of games because of their accuracy and leadership abilities. Something Colt has an abundance of.
Those of us who know Colt and saw him for three years in Hawaii already know what he can do. The fact that he displayed all those things in his first NFL games, pre-season or otherwise, just confirms what we already know about him.
I remember John David Booty being touted as a great NFL QB prospect who was coming out of USC and their pro-style offense. He then went out and, playing against the same level of competition as Colt, had one of the worst ratings of any QB last pre-season.
He looked completely lost while Colt was just being Colt; leading come backs, throwing strikes and putting points on the board. As far as Jason Capmbell... the leash will be short this year. The 'Skins tried to replace him twice this off-season. If Colt gets his chance next year, then you too will learn what the rest of us know.

I wouldnt worry about it. Colt is beast. Plus dude has a preseason under his belt. You have to look at it from a business standpoint. Jason Campbell has got 1 yr left on his contract. I dont see him stayin. He is a good QB but this offense doesnt fit him. And collins is old he only has so much time left. So they really do need to start thinkin bout the future and get depth at that position. You can see it in Zorns eyes he knows he has a gold mine. Buy the way he talks about him. He knows it but he doesnt want anyone else to know it type of thing. If the management was smart, just from the ticket standpoint fans galore. They hype around town alone says put him in!! So now worries. He will get his chance.

You want to talk about a line that cant block, try watching the sugar bowl with UH and Georgia. And he was still able to get 170 yards. What QB can do that with a 3 man rush that was on him like white on rice. huh No one. He is exactly what the doctor ordered. This offense needs a quick decision maker and quick release, vision and instinct. We know he has accuracy, leadership and heart. He will do whatever it takes to win blood, sweat and tears for this team. Thats exactly what we need. The great ones arent the ones that are clear cut. They are the ones that have to work harder to prove the haters wrong. The ones that have to face a little adversity to make them better. Micheal Jordan, Tom Brady, Brett Farve, Doug Flutie.............So keep doubting him it makes him better

I think that not this season but the 2010-2011 (next seas.) season colt will for sure be Backup but maybe starter cuz Collins is gettin old and colt can make big plays in the pocket and with his feet. Or maybe he'll pull a Brett favre and go with another team.

In site of the recent comments, I think Colt can still earn the #2 spot with a great showing in preseason. I think Coach Zorn is looking to see more discipline and Colt is a gamer. He'll do anything to make a play succeed. But if Colt continues down the winning path he started last year (even though there is no John Madden to rave about him this year), I see him moving up the food chain faster. HTTR!
